Background
With reports that pesticides were detected in some vegetables and fruits, peoples¡¯ concerns have been increasing.
- Since parasitic eggs were found in KIMCHI and school meals, in particular, there has been an increasing need to strengthen the safety of agricultural products.

As there has been an increasing need to provide safe agricultural products, international organizations such as Codex Alimentarius Commission (CODEX) (1997) and International Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) (2003) suggested the standards of GAP.
- CODEX and FAO suggested the standards of GAP to promote sustainable agriculture and strengthen the safety.

¡Ø Food Chain Approach: Food safety precautions to manage and open the whole process from production to consumption. - Major countries such as European countries, USA, Chile, Japan and China are currently enforcing the GAP system.
Likewise, Korea began to enforce the GAP system in earnest since June, 2006.
What GEUMSAN Ginseng Worked on GAP Certification
To provide ginseng certified for GAP, GEUMSAN County:
  • Imposed the Korea¡¯s first GAP system on 47 ginseng farms (2006);
  • Obtained the Korea¡¯s first GAP certification in part of ginseng (2007);
  • Imposed the GAP system on 48 ginseng farms (2007);
  • Imposed the GAP system on 101 ginseng, and made 18 of farms who applied for the system in 2005 ship 10mt of GAP ginseng (2008);
  • Imposed the GAP system on 181 farms, and made 11 of applicants between 2006 and 2007 ship 29mt of GAP ginseng (2009);
  • Imposed the GAP system on 329 farms, and made 22 of applicants between 2007 and 2008 ship 29mt of GAP ginseng (2010);
  • 2011³â Ç®¹«¿ø¿¡ GAP ÀÎÁõ Àλï 10MT ÃâÇÏ
  • Examines harmful factors (over 280 pesticide residues and 14 kinds of heavy metals including cadmium) in soil prior to cultivation
  • Built up the RFID system to provide data regarding the production and processing of ginseng and the examinations of harmful factors.
